I'm proud to say that I introduced and obtained passage of significant enhancements in our Local Hire ordinance improving local hiring requirements and also adding requirements for hiring of apprentices on public works contracts. As a result, we train more young people for good local jobs and improve our economy by hiring local workers.
Also, regarding public works contracts, this City's Responsible Contractor Ordinance must be adhered to and possibly strengthened. State legislation enables and encourages cities to do so. The cost of not doing so causes waste in contracts when projects must be re-done. Major legal costs result if a contractor is selected who cannot perform as agreed.
