The University is revising its Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) in the same time frame in which the City revises its own General Plan. The City must remain an active participant and partner in that process.
University growth is a prime topic of consideration. The City must insist that UCSC growth NOT come at the expense of worsened auto gridlock on our neighborhood streets.
Likewise, housing must be developed for ANY University expansion so that our housing resources are not placed under impossible stress. Reasonable rental rates can only be expected if there is an adequate housing supply.
The University population consumes a major share of the City's water supply. UCSC must pay its fair share for any required expansion of our water system that is needed to accommodate their growth.
It's vital that we make this an open and inclusive process and include all of our residents and business owners who wish to participate.
